Worst hospital experience ever. During the last two months I was admitted to UPMC East twice each time staying about 2 weeks. Each time I was left completely in the dark about my care. The doctors and case managers made no attempt to keep me in the loop about any test results or information about what I would need in order to be discharged. Any time I would request to speak with someone higher up in an attempt to gain answers I would get the run-around instead, having to wait several days to speak to someone who then also had no answers for me and only appeared to be humoring me by their presence. I was also often forgotten for meal orders. Nurse response time to the call bell was more often than not over an hour. No exaggeration. Some of the nurses on staff were so incredibly incompetent that I genuinely worried for my safety. I can only thank my lucky stars that my family was somehow finally able to help me get transferred to a different hospital where things are normal. AVOID UPMC EAST AT ALL COSTS.
Unless you are at risk of dying DO NOT go here anytime soon. Waited seven hours with my mother throwing up in the corner into a bag in the waiting room while they yelled at her to put in a mask, which she couldn’t keep on her face due to throwing up. She normally wears a mask all day in public so it certainly wasn’t an issue of values or beliefs. When we asked if she was going to be seen after seven hours due to continued vomiting and their “online waiting system” saying we were under an hour they started yelling saying they don’t use the app and it isn’t accurate. How the nurses don’t use it. Whole thing was absolutely insane. Honestly my mother was in the corner crying and throwing up in pain they just let her sit there. She was struggling from a car accident - car was totaled.. again don’t go if you need emergent care - I guess only go if you truly believe your life is in jeopardy. Terrible. One Star too many.
I give it no stars. They need to shut this place down. They can't handle the lobby patients they never could and they can't seem to figure out how. I came in with a GI bleed by ambulance and was taken straight to the lobby . Bleeding and in pain I sit here and wait. There stupid app they make you use says 5+ hour wait. Lady at registration said better than yesterday at 10 + hours. I was also told the hold up is 20 elderly patients that could go any second are waiting for rooms. I understand but not my problem. Why do they stay open if they can't improve lobby time? Seriously what's the point? UPMC EAST is a failure. Close already you can't do it . Close.
